Optimists to host basketball skills contest

The Apple Valley Optimist Club will host its annual Tri-Star Basketball Skills contest from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 19 at the James Woody Community Center Gym. The contest is free and is open to kids ages 8 to 13.

Some of the events include dribbling a basketball through cones while timed, shooting baskets from different spots on the court and bouncing the ball to hit a target. Players who win first, second and third place will receive a trophy. First place winners will have a chance to go to the district tri-star contest.

Participants must bring an adult with them to sign up.
