FROM STAFF REPORTS
Public Services Assistant Tina Kuhns has worked to improve customer service for the public as well as her fellow co-workers.
From tracking and processing contracts for the new public works facility to managing grants Kuhns’ work ethic earned her recognition earlier in the year as employee of the quarter — and now as Town Employee of the Year.
“I love working with this group of people who feel like my extended family,” Kuhns said. “I can count them as coworkers and friends. I love helping the people of Apple Valley when they call about some concern … potholes or a traffic light that is out. I love assisting citizens with their concerns. I love doing my job efficiently and try to have a good attitude and do it as efficiently as possible.”
Kuhns was hired in 2004 as a clerk/typist and was quickly promoted to public services technician. She will soon earn her construction technology and public works certificates from Victor Valley College. Kuhns was taking a class final and was unable to attend the Town's annual service award dinner earlier this month when her award was announced.
"Tina is the coordinator of every important task that is being carried out for me and Public Services Department every day," said Dennis Cron, assistant town manager of municipal operations and contract services. "Her level of professionalism is outweighed only by her willing cooperation and desire to be helpful to all who need it."
While all of the nominees were qualified to be named Employee of the Year, a majority of the staff chose Kuhns for her unique qualities and recognized her for the great example she represents for the public and staff alike.
