BY DON HOLLAND
Two years ago this week, we relaunched the Apple Valley Review.
With a skeleton crew — Page Designer Martial Haprov, Freelance Reporter Rene De La Cruz and myself — we created a strong local weekly covering the people, events and most everything else in town.
Looking back on the past two years, I’m proud of what this small but mighty team has accomplished. We developed innovative ways to do a lot more with a lot less. Editors I know marvel at the fact that we put out a quality weekly paper with zero full-time employees. And I’m always gratified by the kind words of our readers. It’s been a fun, satisfying endeavor.
So it is all the more difficult for me to say farewell to the Apple Valley Review and the Daily Press, where I have worked for 18 years, including the past 11 years as editor. I have accepted a job as special assistant to 1st District Supervisor Robert Lovingood. And just as with the Review, I will be part of a small team doing important, meaningful work for the community I love.
I’ll still be living in the Victor Valley, my adopted home town, and will continue to be involved in the community, representing Robert.
So this is not good bye. It is au revoir — we’ll see you again.
